The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley will continue its tradition of honoring the area’s finest athletes at the 41st Annual Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony presented by First Horizon Thursday, August 25 at the Knoxville Convention Center. Each year, ten local individuals are inducted into the Hall of Fame for their achievements in athletics, coaching, sports administration, or officiating. This year, Knoxville Catholic is honored to have Catholic Boys' Soccer Coach Gordon Heins inducted into the hall!
Gordon Heins – Catholic Boys' Soccer Coach
Heins has spent more than 35 years coaching youth soccer in Knoxville. He coached at the club level for 25 years and has been the boys coach at Knoxville Catholic for the last 10 years. Heins' teams have won multiple state championships and his success was found early in his career. His impact goes further than the game, though, and in 2021 Heins was recognized by the United Soccer Coaches with the High School Coach of Significance for the entire state.
BJ Edwards – Fighting Irish Basketball
The GKSHF Ceremony will also recognize Class of 2022 Catholic basketball star BJ Edwards for his career accomplishments. BJ led the Fighting Irish to their first state title in 2020 and was named 2021 TSSAA Div. II-Class AA Mr. Basketball. In four varsity seasons at Catholic, he played in 116 games, scored 2,240 total points and averaged 19.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 52 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range.
