
CARMEN HOCHEVAR grew up in Wray, CO as a three-sport athlete. She was on her high school's first-ever state basketball championship team, which led to four consecutive championships. She went on to play volleyball and basketball at Northeastern Junior College and Southern Colorado University (now Colorado State University-Pueblo), and has coached volleyball for over 30 years from Colorado to Tennessee, including over 20 years as a club coach. Her impressive legacy locally from Grace Christian Academy and Concord Christian School includes: five district championships; four region championships; seven state qualifiers; six years in the state final four; and three years as state runners-up. Coach Hochevar has coached 11 players that have signed to play volleyball at the college level. In 2017-18, she was named to the A.F. Bridges Award for District II, Female Coach of the Year. She has an overall record as Head Coach 652-332 not including Club.
Her husband played basketball at the University of Missouri and University of Southern Colorado. Brian also played a stint in the NBA as a Denver Nugget.
Carmen and Brian have three children: Brittany, a graduate of University of California Long Beach and was an All-American Volleyball Player in two positions and a Professional Player on the FIVB World Beach Volleyball and AVP Beach Volleyball Circuits for over 15 years.
Luke, who played baseball at UT and was the #1 overall draft pick in the MLB in 2006 for the Kansas City Royals. He was the winning pitcher for the KC Royals when they won the World Series in 2015.
The youngest of the Hochevar’s, Dylan, played HS football, basketball and baseball. He played college baseball at UT and Tusculum College. Dylan was a top prospect for the MLB Tigers and the Cubs until he faced a Tommy John injury.
Coach Hoch is the mother in-law to Ashley Hochevar, Anthony Hart and Sarah Beth Hochevar and she is Tootsie to her amazing grandchildren; Laney, Lucy, Gus, Maverick, Major and Charlotte.
Carmen is humbled and thrilled to join the Fighting Irish Volleyball team under the direction state championship Irish Coach Brent Carter.
